John Nolen McKowen

John Nolen McKowen, a resident of this city for many years, died at 3:30 o'clock this morning at the age of 65 years, 11 months and two days.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Myers Chapel conducted by Rev. C.M. Prince and Rev. Roy VanHorn and burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time.

He made his home with his brother, Oscar McKowen, 311 north Sixth Street.

Mr. McKowen was born October 23, 1874, in Richland county, the son of Sam and Artemesa McKowen. He came to Mt. Vernon when he was 12 years of age.

His father died in 1898 and he resided with his mother until she died in 1919. He then made his home with his brother.

Ten years ago he was converted and he joined the Epworth Methodist Church and continued a faithful member until he lost his eyesight two years ago. He had been in ill health for the past year.

He is survived by a brother, Oscar McKowen, and a sister, Mrs. Harmon Miller of Danville.
