Orlie George McCluskey

Orlie George McCluskey, 96, of Mt. Vernon died 8:05 a.m. Nov. 29, 2004, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was first employed at Dowzer Electric Co. and later worked at the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory. At the time of his retirement, he was working for Defender Corp. at General Tire Co.

Mr. McCluskey was born April 30, 1908, in Cobden to Mancil and Mary (Stacy) McCluskey.

He married Goldie (Newbury) McCluskey June 3, 1944, in Nashville; she died Sept. 1, 1991.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Shane Merritt will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. McCluskey is survived by a son, Martin Dale McCluskey Sr. and wife Connie of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Linda Faye Harlow and husband Don of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren Martin Dale McCluskey Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Mark David Harlow of Round Rock, Texas, Tristin Gayle McCluskey of Mt. Vernon and Christina Dawn Harlow of Round Rock, Texas; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Olive Hill and husband Howard of Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, a daughter and a brother.

Mr. McCluskey was a member of the Church of Christ, which he loved dearly, and was very involved. He was an avid coin collector.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Church of Christ and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
