Peggy Shannon (Place) McCauley

Peggy Shannon McCauley, 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:59 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born in Waltonville on Saturday, Feb. 23, 1929, a daughter of Claude and Nela (Peterson) Place.

She married George McCauley on Aug. 17, 1947, in Morganfield, Ky.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Peggy is survived by her husband, George McCauley of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Susan McCauley of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Terry McCauley and wife Carolyn of Mt. Vernon, Shawn McCauley of Tallahassee, Fla., and Tod McCauley and wife Cheryl of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Michele Olson and husband Jeff of Kenai, Alaska, Heather McCauley and David Fairclough of Anchorage, Alaska, Jaime Kiewik and husband Chris of Anchorage, Alaska, Jaleigh Shannon McElhiney of Mt. Vernon and Cameron McCauley of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Vera Place of Woodlawn, Doris Atkinson and husband Evertt of Mt. Vernon, Clarice Hollis and husband Bob of Mt. Vernon; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents and her brother, Gene Place, preceded her in death.
