Charles Ray Mayo

Charles Ray Mayo, 75, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at White Oak Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Mt. Vernon on June 19, 1934, a son of William M. and Vera L. (Sechrest) Mayo.

He was first married to Sharon Sollis and the later married Wilma (Bandy) Snow on Oct. 8, 1985, in Mt. Vernon.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merritt Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County.Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Mayo is survived by his wife, Wilma Mayo of Mt. Vernon; a son, Ricky Mayo and wife Beverly of Decatur; a daughter, Vickie O’Dea and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; three stepsons, James Snow and wife Brenda of Dix, Charles Robert Snow and wife Teresa of Mt. Vernon and Richard Alan Snow of Robinson, Texas’ a stepdaughter, Sherry Lynn Burge and husband John of Mt. Vernon; brothers, William E. Mayo of Mt. Vernon and Robert F. Mayo and wife Dottie of St. Charles, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

He was a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
