Alva William Martin

Alva William Martin 62, 319 S 15th St dies at 2:45 pm Friday at the Casey Manor Nursing Home. He was engaged in the loggin and timber business.

Mr. Martin was born in Mt Vernon, Jan. 16, 1920, the son of William and Clara Mae (Brown) Martin.

He first married Virginia Vaughn and later Wanda Riley, both of whom preceded him in death.

On March 28, 1953 he married Helen Winemiller, who survives.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday at the Hughey Funeral Home with David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in West Salem Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1376 of Mt Vernon.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, John Martin of Mountain Home, Ark; four daughters, Mrs Ronald (Sheila) Dye , Mrs Leroy (Aileen) Williams and Mrs Paul (Linda) Yanez, all of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs John (Frances) Wheeler of Bishop Hill; 16 grandchildren; four brothers, Roy and Delbert Martin, both of Aurora, Carl Martin of Anchorage, Alaska, and Richard Martin of Mt Vernon: 3 sisters, Mrs. Henry (Mary) Flores of Gilroy, CA, Mrs. Jim (Edna) Dial of Yorkville and Mrs. Jerry (Thelma) Kluck of Mt Vernon, and several nieces and nephews.

An army veteran of World War II, Mr Martin was a member of the VFW post No 1376 and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
