Clyde C. Malone

Clyde C. Malone, 87, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

He was born in Hamilton County on July 3, 1921, a son of Cloyd C. and Maggie (Rockett) Malone.

He married Doris Pontius in Hamilton County on July 7, 1940. They shared 68 years of marriage.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn with Elder Ralph Rockett officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the

cemetery.

The family of Clyde Malone will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Doris Malone of Mt. Vernon; son, Roger Malone of Mt. Vernon; daughter, Sharon Metzger and husband Norman of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Mark Metzger and wife Connie of Fairfield and Stacey Martinez and husband Gregg of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Trey and Justin Martinez of Mt. Vernon, Ryan Johnson and wife Lisa of Decatur and Whitney Johnson of Marion; brother, Ervin Dean Malone and wife Jean of Carmi; three sisters, Jean Anderson of Flora, Thelma Moore of St. Louis and Lois Bathe of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; infant daughter, Jeannie Malone; infant brother; three brothers, Dale, Lester and Donald Lee Malone; and three sisters, Dorothy Dannels, Bonnie Kinney and Zelma Defoe preceded him in death.

Mr. Malone worked at Bolerjacks Market for 14 years before owning Rocketts Market for 9 years. He served in the United States Army 3rd Armored Division 36th Infantry in France during World War II. He was awarded three battle stars and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Community of Christ Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
