Edward Leuty

Edward LEUTY, born April 16, 1878 & died February 9, 1935

Edward Leuty, son of Azariah and Elizabeth Leuty, was bornApril 16, 1878, in Jefferson County near Divide, Ill. He departed this life in Salem, Ill., on February 9, 1935 at the age of 56 years, 9 months, and 24 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Louisa McDaniel on November 27, 1897. This union was blessed with seven children, as follows: Walter,Roscoe, Dennis, James, Altris, Clarence, and Minnie Bell.

He professed faith in Christ as his Savior on November 7, 1923 during a revival meeting held at Palestine Church of Romine Township,and shortly afterwards was baptized into the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, remaining a member of that body until the Lord called him home. Ed, as he was generally known, was a person of sterling character, abiding strictly by the Golden Rule in his dealings with his fellow men. He was of jovial disposition, always having a smile for all he met. He lived on a farm until 1928 when he moved to Salem, Ill., and had worked in the factory of Brown Shoe Co. ever since.

He leaves to mourn his departure al loving and devoted wife, five sons and two daughters as follows: Walter of Alberton, Ill., Roscoe, Dennis, James, and Clarence, all of Salem, Mrs. Altris Ferguson of Salem, and Minnie Bell at home; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Alfred of Kell, Wink of Dix, and Sam of Bluford, and five sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Ellis and Mrs. Mary Murphy of Centralia, Mrs. Martha Smith of Rockford, Mrs. Monera Blankenship and Mrs. Lizzie Blankenship of Kell; besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held February 11, 1935 at the Baptist Church in Kell, conducted by Elder W. J. Anderson of Mt. Vernon in the presence of a very large and sympathizing congregation, after which his body was laid to rest in the County Line Cemetery.
