Azariah Leuty

Azariah LEUTY born January 1, 1829 & died February 10, 1908

Azariah Leuty died at the home of his daughter, Prudence Leuty, in the northeast corner of Jefferson County, Azariah Leuty died February 10, 1908, aged 79 years, 1 month, and 9 days.

He was born January 1, 1829 in Tennessee; came to Jefferson County, Ill., in early life, where he was married to Miss Clara Elizabeth McConnell, January 2, 1856, who preceded him to the bright beyond January 4, 1892.

Mr. Leuty and his wife, early in life, professed faith in God and joined the M. E. Church at Dix, and lived true Christians until death called them home. Sixteen children blessed this union, thress of who died in infancy.

Deceased was the last of his immediate family, although he is survived by three stepbrothers- Calvin of Texas, Thomas of Salem, and Jacob of Dix. His six sons and seven daughters live in Marion and Jefferson Counties, excepting Rebecca who lives in Wayne County.

His remains were conveyed to the old chapel cemetery, one mile eastof Dix, where, after a short talk by Robert F. Casey, his body was consigned to the tomb to await final resurrection.
