John Mitchell Lee

John Mitchell, the son of Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Lee, was born on the 24th day of January, 1881 in Jefferson County, Illinois, three miles south of Mt. Vernon. Here he grew to manhood.

On the 25th day of July, 1906 he was united in marriage with Miss Carrie McMeen, to them two children have been born, Gleason and Glenn, who with their mother survive.

Mitchell, as he was familiary called, was a machinist by trade, having worked at Evansville, Ind., was Master Mechanic at No. 9, at Frankffort Heights, in installing the machinery of that big mine, and at the time of his last illness, he was machinist for the C.E.& I railroad, at the roundhouse in West Frankfort, Ill.

He took sick on the 21st day of November and grew gradually worse till the end came.All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done, but at last after 10 weeks of intense suffering, his constitution was not able to bear the strain any longer, and at 1 o'clock on tuesday afternoon, January 25, 1916, he passed peaceably away to be withe the Lord. Age 35 years and 1 day.

About four weeks before his death he called his wife to his bed and told her he had accepted Christ as his Saviour, expressing a desire to get well so that he could attend church with his wife and little boys. In this faith in Christ he lived the remaining days of his life, and in this faith he died. He was a kind husband, a loving father, a good neighbor and a hard working man.

The body was taken to Ina and from there to the Kirk Church, where the funeral was conducted by the Rev. C L Wood, and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.
