Katherine Frances (Wright) Laur

Katherine Frances (Wright) Laur, 88, of Du Quoin died Oct. 5, 2004, in FairView Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

For the past several years, Mrs. Laur had been a resident of FairView, but was a lifelong resident of the Waltonville area, where she was a homemaker and helped with the Laur family farm.

She was born Dec. 8, 1915, to Herbert "Doc" and Mabel (Wever) Wright of Scheller.

She married Clarence F. Laur, also of the rural Scheller area. They were married May 12, 1937, in Nashville and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1987 prior to Mr. Laur's death in 1988.

Also preceding Mrs. Laur in death were brothers Virgil, Willard, Joe and Bob Wright; and a sister, Helen Wright.

Mrs. Laur was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always eagerly willing to share her vast knowledge of cooking, sewing, gardening and other almost-lost skills of her generation with her grandkids.

Other survivors include her only son, Larry Lee Laur of Du Quoin; and four grandchildren and their spouses, Robyn Laur Russell and Leo Russell, Toni and Chris Baker, Marsha and Doug Morgenstern and Donnie and Donna Laur. Mrs. Laur has eight great-grandchildren, Molly Clark and Maya Russell, Christin and Colton Baker, Garrett and Gage Morgenstern and Zackary and Cameron Laur. A sister, Margaret Cresswell and her husband, Neil, of O'Fallon, survives.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. The funeral and burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, with the Rev. Ronnie Reynolds officiating and burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. For those wishing, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Newell Funeral Home, where you may call 279-7272 for further information.
