Hobart M. Laur

Funeral services for Hobart M. LAUR, 72, a well known and liked Mt.Vernon businessman, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pulley Funeral Home.

Dr. Clyde FUNKHOUSER will officiate and burial will be in Kirk Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley Funeral Home, where his many friends may call after 3:00 p.m. today.

Mr. LAUR of 2202 Casey Avenue died at 9:20 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mr. LAUR, was known as "Hobe" by his friends, owned & operated Peerless Cleaners for several years before his retirement. He was one of the civic-minded group of men in the Kiwanis Club who founded the Khoury Baseball League for the youngsters of Mt. Vernon.

Mr. LAUR, a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club, served as it's president in 1961 & had an enviable record of 23 years perfect attendance at Kiwanis meetings. "Hobe" was a leader in conservation in Southern Illinois & served for years on the Mt. Vernon Gun & Sportsman's Club.

He was born August 6, 1896 in Jefferson County, the son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (BAIN) LAUR.

On July 2, 1919, he was married to Mary ROTH, who survives.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles B. (Martha Ann) DEERING, Jr. of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Dennis, John and Christy Ann; three brothers, Russell LAUR of Mt. Vernon, Roy LAUR of St. Louis, and Robert LAUR of Ina; and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Lillian) HAYES of Ina and Mrs. J. M. (Louis) WALKER of Waltonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother & one grandson.
