Grace Laskowski
Grace Elaine (Holland) Laskowski, 69 of Sesser, formerly of Mt. Vernon,
went to meet her Heavenly Father on June 25, 2008, at St. Louis University
Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of John and
Daisy (Holman) Holland. She married George "Sonny" Laskowski on Aug. 31, 1955,
in Sardis, Miss., and he preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1979.
"Grandma Grace" was a volunteer through the Foster Grandparent Program.
Her volunteer time was spent at Logan Street Daycare in Mt. Vernon where she
was known as "The Rocking Grandma." Throughout the years Grace had various
occupations; she worked as a Kid Care Referral Representative, video store
owner and security guard for Old Ben Coal Company. Above all her lifelong and
most rewarding job was raising her nine children.
Grace enjoyed living in the Rend Lake area and enjoyed nature with her daughter
Melissa, was an avid Cardinals fan, she loved to cook and watch Westerns. She
loved cats and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Laskowski is survived by her children, Dave Laskowski of Mt. Vernon, Susan
Thomas of Mt. Vernon, Tim Laskowski and wife Gail of Bartlett, Tenn., Donnie Laskowski
and wife Marlene of Dyersburg, Tenn., Kathy Bracey and husband Sidney of Clarksville, Tenn.,
Melissa Laskowski of Sesser, John Laskowski and wife Michelle of Atoka, Tenn., Chris Laskowski
of Sesser and Becky Clark and husband Dennis of Macedonia. Her grandchildren include
Tracy Laskowski and wife Heather, Amber Thomas, Nicole Laskowski, James Laskowski and
wife Melissa, Kevin Laskowski, Brandon, Daniel and Taylor Doubler, Ben and Matt Bracey,
Kaitlyn, Ashley and Rachel Laskowski, Seth, Dennison, Zane and Trinden Clark; great-grandchildren,
Kennedy and Kamden Laskowski, Kyle, Sean-Michael and Mackenzie Laskowski; extended family
and friends include, Carl, Carlie and Mary Bevis, Paula Sprinkle, Linda Roberts, Jean and
Kenny as well as numerous friends from Logan Street Daycare, the Foster Grandparent Program
and Whittington Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Judith Stube;
daughter-in-law, Roxie Laskowski; and infant daughter Anne Marie.
Visitation will be at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor
Greg Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn.
Memorials may be given to the St. Louis University Hospital Auxiliary Hospitality
House or to Logan Street Daycare and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be
mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
