Elva Rosella (Wood) Laird

Mrs. Elva Rosella Laird

Mrs. Elva Rosella Laird, widow of Lanson K. Laird, of Dix, died at an early hour this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Cummings, 820 south Eighteenth street. Mrs. Laird had been in bad health for almost two years, and her condition had been serious for some time.

She was the daughter of John and Catherine (Burton) Wood, and was born in Sangamon county, Il. June 1, 1861 and was the last of a family of ten children. The family located in Bluford when Mrs.Laird was very young.

Her marriage to Lanson K. Laird took place in 1885, and he preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1932.

Three children survive, Viz; John L. at home; Mrs. Mertie Cummins, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Opal Kisner, Patoka, Il. Four grandchildren survive.

Mrs. Laird was a member of the Marlow M.E. church and a devoted consecrated christian. She was possessed of many womanly virtues andwas loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a home maker in the true sense of the word and left nothing undone to insure the welfare and happiness of her loved ones. Her life was all inspiration to all who knew her. She will be remembered for the good she did and the world is better because of her having lived in it.

The body will be in state at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Cummings, at the address given above, where it may be viewed at any convenient time by friends up to 10:30 tomorrow morning, after which it will be taken to the family home in Dix. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 am in the Dix M.E. church and burial will follow in Black Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bluford.
