Geneva A. Koons, 91, of Mt. Vernon died 10:30 a.m. Sept. 29, 2002, at her home.

She was a renowned hairdresser and had worked in Kansas City, Chicago, Colorado Springs and Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Koons was born June 18, 1911, in Jefferson County to Jesse A. and Inez M. (Wilkerson) Reece.

Memorial services will be held 6 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home. Mr. David Davenport will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Koons is survived by two daughters, Barbara Davenport and husband Bob and Joan Lowther, all of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, David Davenport of West Frankfort, Joan Davenport Tate and Nancy Davenport Ross, both of Mt. Vernon, Paul Lowther of Farmers City, Tony Lowther and Barbara “Cissy” Hanaga, both of Mt. Vernon; six great-grandchildren, Colter Tate and Maddie Ross, both of Mt. Vernon, India Lowther and Alexis Lowther, both of Bluford and Heidi Day and Bekah Mellow; and a niece, Brenda Kay Watts of Timewell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Louie V. Reece; and one sister, Virginia Lantz.
