Wanda L. (Hawkins) Kemmerling

Wanda L. Kemmerling, 81, of Mt. Vernon died 4:30 p.m. May 10, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a housewife.

Mrs. Kemmerling was born April 27, 1925, in Mt. Vernon to Chesley and Clara (Stratton) Hawkins.

She married Fay F. Kemmerling Dec. 31, 1942, in St. Louis; he preceded her in death April 1, 1988.

Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Salem Mateer Cemetery in Wayne County. The Rev. Don Rector will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Kemmerling is survived by a daughter, Nancy Parker and husband Richard of Joliet; three sons, Fay Eugene Kemmerling and wife Brigitte of Mt. Vernon, Harold Kemmerling and wife Theresa of Bluford and Larry Kemmerling and wife Sandra of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Wilbur Hawkins; and a sister, Edna Douthit.

Mrs. Kemmerling was past president and past regional president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1376. She was also past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 141. She was a member of the AMVETS Auxiliary, the Mt. Vernon Eagles Lodge and the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club.
