Felix E. Johnston

Felix E. JOHNSTON died yesterday at 6:30 o'clock p.m., at his home in Alton.

He had been sick sometime, and reports which reached Mt. Vernon recently indicated that his condition was serious.

The body was brought to Mt. Vernon and taken to the W. B. Myers undertaking rooms, 122 North Tenth Street, and prepared for burial.

Mr. JOHNSTON was born in Bonnie, September 24, 1862, and his age at time of death was 70y10m1d.

He was united in marriage with Mrs. Grace LONG SCHMITT in this city, June 18, 1911, and she survives.

He is survived by two sons, Roy JOHNSTON, Lexington, Neb., and Reef JOHNSTON of Columbus, Ohio; and by one sister, Mrs. Leona FARTHING of Bonnie; and two brothers, Lucius JOHNSTON, Bakersfield, Calif., and Vincent JOHNSTON, St. Louis, and four grandchildren.

He was a son of Ambrose JOHNSTON, in his day a prominent citizen of the south part of the county.

Mr. JOHNSTON had taught school at Bonnie, and later served a term as County Clerk of Jefferson County, and later served two years as an attendant at the Jacksonville State Institution, and was transferred about June 1 to the Alton State Institution.

Mr. JOHNSTON was of a friendly disposition and had many friends in Mt. Vernon and throughout Jefferson County. He was a member of the Knights and Ladies of Security.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 o'clock p.m. at Myers Chapel, conducted by the Rev. O. B. ALLEN and burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel until after the funeral.
