Hilda M. (Bayne) Huston

Hilda M. Huston, 89, of Mt. Vernon died 4:25 p.m. April 23, 2005, at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was a teller at Security Bank and Trust, where she retired from in 1978.

Mrs. Huston was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Mt. Vernon to Charles and Cora (Harlow) Bayne.

She married S. Russell Huston May 1, 1937, in Mt. Vernon; he preceded her in death Jan. 18, 2005.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Revs. Dennis Manley and Gene Auxier will officiate. Burial will follow at East Salem Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Huston is survived by a daughter, B.J. Snyder and husband Richard of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Staci Snyder of Woodlawn and Scott Snyder and wife Rachel of Mt. Vernon; and four great-grandchildren, Haley N. Snyder of Woodlawn, Amber Nelson of Woodlawn, Connor Snyder of Mt. Vernon and Emma Snyder of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and two sisters.

Mrs. Huston was always active in civic affairs. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Mt. Vernon, was treasurer of the Jefferson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board from 1962 to 1963, was financial secretary for 23 years and served as clerk for 15 years at East Salem Church, was secretary of the Mt. Vernon Republican Women and attended Clear View Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
