Solomon Howard

Solomon J. HOWARD, who died at his residence on East Jordan street yesterday afternoon, was born in Lyon county, Ky., March 20, 1830.

His parents died while he was but a lad, when he went to live with his uncle, Rev. John G. HOWARD, of Owensboro, Ky., where he grew to manhood and for many years was engaged in the mercantile business.

In 1852 he married Miss Mary, daughter of the late Judge G. W. TRIPLETT, of Owensboro, who survives him.

To them were born two sons, Geo. W. and Jo T. HOWARD, both in business here.

Mr. HOWARD has been a member of the Baptist church since 1852, and died in that faith.

He was made a Mason at Owensboro many years ago and retained his membership there up to his death.

He removed to this city in 1884, and for a greater portion of the time since then has been engaged in business here. He stood in the front ranks of our business men and his place as a worthy citizen was no less high.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church at 2 o'clock this afternoon by Rev. I. N MONROE, after which the remains were laid to rest in Oakwood with Masonic honors.
