C. W. Horton, 92, Dies; Funeral At Belle Rive

Funeral services for Charles W. Horton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Missionary Baptist church in Belle Rive with the Rev. Leo Walton and the Rev. Howard Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Flint cemetery at Belle Rive.

The body will lie in state at the Gholson Funeral home in McLeansboro where friends may call at any time.

Mr. Horton, 92, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday at his home in Belle Rive.

He had served as justice of the peace and a trustee at Belle Rive and he was a former road commissioner in Moores Prairie township.

Mr. Horton was born Feb. 8, 1872, at Champaign, Ill., the son of William and MInerva (Whitaker) Horton.

July 9 would have been the 71st anniversary of his marriage to Emily Pearl Wright, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Paul Horton of Mt. Vernon, Ross Horton of Belle Rive, and Woodrow Horton of Alton; a daughter, Mrs. Carmel Crawford of Filer, Okla; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Mr. Horton was a member of the Christian church.
