William R. "Bill" Holloway

William R. "Bill" Holloway, 88, of Sun City, Ariz., and formerly of Waltonville, died 8 a.m. July 11, 2004, in Sun City, Ariz.

He was born May 22, 1916, in Waltonville, a son of Pearl and Ida May (Kelley) Holloway.

In 1942, he married Emma (Gent) Holloway in Baltimore, Md.; she preceded him in death June 6, 1982.

He later married Lydia (Bollinger) Holloway; she survives in Sun City, Ariz.

Mr. Holloway was a Christian. He worked at Freeman Coal No. 3 in Waltonville for 21 years. He was a former member of the Waltonville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9153, Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon. He served as Jefferson County treasurer for eight years and was formerly the Democratic chairman of Jefferson County. He served his country in the United States Army.

Surviving are two daughters, Frances Beauman and husband Jack of Springfield and Pam Lewis and husband John of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Edna Kennedy and husband Claude of Albuquerque, N.M.; five granddaughters, Natasha Telger and husband Robert, Benay Walker and husband John, Tiffany Capps and husband Ryan, Erin Bevis and Whitney Bevis; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Holloway was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma (Gent) Holloway; a daughter, Carol Ann Bicanich; three brothers, Greer, Maxey and Floyd Holloway; and two sisters, Ruth Mae Barnett and Marie Gee.

Graveside memorial services, officiated by the Rev. Donald Perschall, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, memrials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and will be accepted at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, where you may inquire at 246-0100.
