Gilbert Hoeinghaus

Gilbert Hoeinghaus,age 83, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

He was born November 28, 1922, in Centralia, Illinois son of Henry Junior Hoeinghaus and Gertrude Wallace.

He married Nelda R. Rippy-Johnson on May 3, 1975 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Gilbert is survived by his wife; Nelda Hoeinghaus of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Danny E. Hoeinghaus and wife Jeanette of Kinmundy, Illinois, Ronald L. Johnson and wife Jo Anne of Evansville, Illinois, and Randall L. Johnson and wife Chris of Scottsdale, Arizona; two grandchildren and six step grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Roberts of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, one son: Dale Hoeinghaus, his brother: Harry Hoeinghaus, three sisters: Goldie Sligar, Eunice Berky and Virginia Kelly preceded him in death.

Gilbert was a World War II Veteran who served in the US Marine Corps from December 1943 to March 1946, was a member of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141, V. F. W. Post #1376 and the AARP. He attended Southwest Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, loved sports, reading and hunting and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors conducted by members of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141. Visitation was held at 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Entombment followed at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Mr. J. Howard Kraps officiated. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the United Way and will be accepted at the chapel or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864.
