Shelby Newton Highsmith

S. N. Highsmith Dies At Age 75 In Hospital Here

Shelby Newton Highsmith, of RFD 4, Mt. Vernon, Died at 8:10 a.m. today at Jefferson Memroial Hospsital, where he had been a patient for the past three days.

Mr. Highsmith, a farmer, was 75 years, ten months and 18 days of age.

He was born August 31, 1878 in Jefferson county, the son of Cyrus and Cinderella (Shelton) Highsmith.

He was married in Jefferson county November 24, 1912 to vivian Morris, who survives.

Mr. Highsmtih, a lifetime resident of Jefferson county, was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Shelby Herbert Highsmith of the U.S. Naval Air Force; five daughters, Mrs. Lawton Taylor, Wilma L. highsmith and Doris vivian Highsmith of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Kenneth McCowen of Waltonville and Mrs. Vernon Loy of Vancouver, Wash.; five brothers, Arthur and Charles of Mt. Vernon, Sam of Haywarden, Iowa, Alva M. of New Plymouth, Idaho and George of Missouri; one sister, Mrs. W. W. Waite of Mt. Vernon; and seven grandchildren.
