Albert Clinton Highsmith

A. C. Highsmith, Former County Official, Dies

Albert Clinton Highsmith, a retired school teacher and former deputy circuit clerk, of Jefferson county, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at his home on RFD 7, Mt. Vernon. He was 84 years and seven months old.

Mr. Highsmith served as deputy circuit clerk for two terms and also served as tax assessor for Mt. Vernon township.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Chapel with the REv. Loran Bumpus officiating. Burial will be in Williams cemetery.

The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today.

Mr. Highsmith was born May 27, 1880, in Jefferson county, the son of Lewis C. and Julia A. (Williams) Highsmith.

In Jefferson county, on Jan. 3, 1904, he was married to Flossie Ward, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Ray A. Highsmith and Kenneth E. Highsmith, both of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, MRs. Opal Gowler, Mrs. Nola Greer and Miss Norma Highsmith, all of this city, and Mrs. Mildred crane of Paririe Village, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Pettit and Mrs. Laura Highsmith, both of Mt. Vernon; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Highsmith was a member of the Camp Ground Baptist church and the Modern Woodmen Lodge.
