Larry Ray Heck

Larry Ray Heck, 60, of Mt. Vernon died 6:35 p.m. July 1, 2006, at Mt. Vernon Healthcare in Mt. Vernon.

He was first employed at Vern-Wood Press of Mt. Vernon and then worked in the area as a self-employed carpenter.

Mr. Heck was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Mt. Vernon to Gilbert and Edna (Martin) Heck.

He married Rita (Fleener) Heck June 29, 1991, in Mt. Vernon; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. The Rev. Richard Pearce will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Heck is survived by his wife, Rita Heck of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Cullen and husband Shawn of Fisher, Ind.; three sons, Allen Ray Heck and wife Miranda of Du Bois, Larry Bob Heck and fiancee Jennifer Beckley of Mt. Vernon and Greg Heck and wife Megan of Auburn; a stepson, Robert Karch and wife Carla of Owensboro, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Angel Mason and husband Rob of Bluford; a special son, Michael Moore and wife Katrena of Mt. Vernon; 11 grandchildren, Sean Langa of Bluford, Abby Langa of Fisher, Ind., Shyla Heck of Du Bois, Braden Heck of Du Bois, Allen Heck II of Du Bois, Shelby Heck of Mt. Vernon, Emily Heck of Mt Vernon, Erik Heck of Mt. Vernon, Brock Karch of Owensboro, Ky., Kaci Mason of Bluford and Kyle Mason of Bluford; six brothers, Ricky Dean Heck and wife Beverly of Mt. Vernon, Donald R. Heck and special friend Susan of Mt. Vernon, Ken Heck and wife Mary of Mt. Vernon, Dennis Heck and wife Tammy of Opdyke, Tom Heck of Mt. Vernon and Billy Heck and fiancee Candice of Opdyke; five sisters, Deloris Ferguson and husband Harol of South Carolina, Linda Holmes of Mt. Vernon, Brenda Tolley and husband Rodney of Opdyke, Misty Heck of Mt. Vernon and Donna Guthrie and husband Richard of Scott City, Mo; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his stepmother, Kathleen Heck of Mt. Vernon; an aunt (who was like a mother to Mr. Heck), Pauline McClure and husband Charles of Mt. Vernon; and lifelong friends Harry Clarey of Mt. Vernon and Dana Soloman of Mt. Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred "Midge" Heck, on Feb. 27, 1988; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Mildred Fleener; and two brothers.

Mr. Heck was a lifelong member of Eagles Aerie Lodge 2791 of Mt. Vernon.
