John F. Hays was born in Overton county, Tenn., March 10th, 1850, and died at the home of A. A. McMeen, in Jefferson county, Ill., February 22, 1892, aged 31 years, 11 months and 13 days.

He had been sufferer for a long time with that dreadful disease, consumption, yet he hardly ever complained and seemed cheerful up to within a short time before his death.

The writer visited him daily. About three weeks before he died he said that he was willing to die and everything was bright in the future.

Interment at Hopewell, funeral sermon by Rev. J. N. Brown, assisted by James McCormack.

The father and brothers have the sympathy of a number of friends.
