Janet (Cox) Greer

Janet Greer, 64, of Mt. Vernon died 8:45 p.m. Oct. 4, 2005, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was a high school music teacher, who taught all over the United States and Germany.

Mrs. Greer was born April 19, 1941, in Mt. Vernon to Douglas and Mary (Hulen) Cox.

She married James Mark Greer Aug. 26, 2000, in Whittington; he survives.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Dwight Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Greer is survived by her husband, James Mark Greer of Mt. Vernon; a son, 1st Lt. Matthew Booth and wife Jennie of Langley Air Force Base, Va.; two daughters, Shelly Brown and husband Dwight of Lincoln, Neb., and Allison Booth of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Jennaca and Daniel Brown of Lincoln, Neb.; two stepsons, Mark Greer and wife Melinda of Dayton, Ohio and Frank Greer and wife Billie of Hopkinsville, Ky.; a sister, D’etta Heard and husband Lee of Dahlgren; an aunt, Doris Cutrell and husband Andy of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Greer attended Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. The loves of her life were Jesus, her family and music. She attained a master’s degree in music from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
