Judith F. “Judy” (Whisenhunt) Gowler

Judith F. “Judy” Gowler, 84 of Tempe, AZ and a former resident of Mt. Vernon died Sunday, February 12, 2012 in Tempe.

Judy was born July 12, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Lennis and Gladys (Huckleberry) Whisenhunt.

She married Roy Wayne Gowler on January 22, 1946.

She is survived by her husband Roy, two daughters: Monica (Roger) Christ of Springfield, IL and Cynthia Russell of Orangeburg; SC, one son Steven (Janet) Gowler of Gilbert, AZ; three grandsons, Johnathan and Benjamin Russell of Orangeburg, SC and Ryan Gowler of Gilbert, AZ; one great-grandson Jalen Gowler of Gilbert, AZ, and also several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special cat Tabby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers James, Jack, and Charles and two sisters, Deloris and Hazel.

Judy operated a beauty shop out of her home on the Fairfield Road for 15 years. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She retired from the Housing Division at Arizona State University.

Private services and burial were held February 15, 2012 at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mesa, AZ.

MT. VERNON - Judith F. “Judy” Gowler, 84 of Tempe, Ariz., and a former resident of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, in Tempe.

Judy was born July 12, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Lennis and Gladys (Huckleberry) Whisehunt. She married Roy Wayne Gowler on Jan. 22, 1946.

She is survived by her husband Roy; two daughters, Monica (Roger) Christ of Springfield and Cynthia Russell of Orangeburg, S.C.; one son, Steven (Janet) Gowler of Gilbert, Ariz.; three grandsons, Johnathan and Benjamin Russell of Orangeburg, S.C., and Ryan Gowler of Gilbert, Ariz.; one great-grandson, Jalen Gowler of Gilbert, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special cat, Tabby.

I corrected the spelling of her maiden name since I know her personally. They misspelled it in the newspaper. Her daughter, Monica is trying to get a correction published.

Roy and Judy are high school classmates of my parents and I've enjoyed visiting with them since I moved to Arizona. I first visited with Roy and Judy at their home in Tempe, AZ in December 2011.
