Sherman Gossage

Sherman Gossage of 1810 south Ninth street died at 11:30 pm Thursday in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was 68 years, nine months and 19 days old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at the Pulley-Gutzler funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Pulley-Gutzler Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 pm Sunday.

He was born May 18, 1894, in Hamilton county, the son of William and Fannie (Margraves) Gossage.

In 1915, at McLeansboro, he was married to Sylvia Miller, who preceded him in death in 1960.

He is survived by three sons, Lester Gossage of Rockford, William Gossage of Mt. Vernon, and Thomas Gossage of Belvidere, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Phillips and Mrs. Maxine Haynes, both of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Virginia Pittman of Belvidere; a brother, Jack Gossage of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Miller of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Ruth Adcock of DeKalb, Mrs. Naomi Shelf of Chicago and Mrs. Cindy Allen of McLeansboro.

Mr. Gossage was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
