Inez (Fairchild) Gilbert

Mrs. Inez Gilbert Dies; Funeral At Waltonville

Mrs. Inez Gilbert, 81, of Waltonville died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in Good Samaritan Hospital. For 38 years, she served as treasurer of the Waltonville school district. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Waltonville Methodist church, of which she had been a member since 1923, with the Reverend Bobby Logan officiating. Burial will be in Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville where friends may call after 5:00 p.m. Friday. At noon, Saturday, the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Gilbert was born Dec. 2, 1885, in Jefferson county, the daughter of Eli and Jeanette (Dixon) Fairchild.

On Oct. 9, 1904, she was married to Alva Gilbert, who preceded her in death in 1957.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maxey Holloway of Waltonville, and Mrs. Julius Baker of Rantoul; and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Quinn of Tamaroa.

Mrs. Gilbert was president of the Waltonville Woman's Society of Christian Service for ten years. She was a past president of the Rebekah Lodge, a charter member of the Jefferson County Home Bureau, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America Lodge, the Encampment Auxiliary of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and the Canton Auxiliary, I.O.O.F.
