Linnie Dodds Gilbert
OBITUARY: The Mt. Vernon Register News published the following on Wednesday,
January 31, 1940 and Friday, February 2, 1940 which read:
Mrs. Linnie Dodds Gilbert, widow of the late Walter J. Gilbert died at 10:30
o'clock last night at the home of her son. Paul Gilbert, a short distance
west of Mt. Vernon. Her age was 76 years, 7 months and 7 days.
Mrs. Gilbert fell eleven weeks ago and suffered a broken hip and it was from
the injuries and complications of this fall that death resulted. Mrs. Gilbert
was a lifelong resident of this county and was well liked by all who knew her.
She was born June 23, 1862, the daughter of William and Anna Dodds. She was
united in marriage with Walter J. Gilbert November 23 1885. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert
spent the greateer part of their lives in this county near Waltonville where Mr.
Gilbert had extensive farming interests. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by one
son, Paul Gilbert of this city, representative of the Federal Land .... two
brothers, Sam Dodds of Paducah, Kentucky and Charles Dodds of Washoural,
Washington, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30
p.m. o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church in Waltonville
conducted by Reverend D. E. Baker of Charleston, Illinois. Burial will
follow in Knob Prairie Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel
until the funeral hour where friends may call at any time."
"Funeral services for Mrs. Linnie J. Gilbert widow of Walter J. Gilbert,
widow of Walter J. Gilbert, who died at the home of her son Paul Wednesday
night, were held at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Methodist church in
Waltonville. The services were conducted by Rev. D. E. Baker and burial
followed in Knob Prairie Cemetery. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the
Primitive Baptist Church."
