Alvin Louis Germann

Alvin Louis Germann, 74, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Moore Haven, Fla.

He was born in Jefferson County on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 1934, a son of Reinhardt "R.A." and Nellie (Piercy) Germann.

He married Rita Ann Fitzjerrells on June 11, 1954, in McLeansboro.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with the Rev. Wendell Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Rita Germann of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Andy Germann and special friend Jill McIntosh of Salem and Rodney Germann and wife Donna of Downers Grove; four grandchildren, Bryce and Marcy Germann of Bloomington and Olivia and Ian Germann of Downers Grove; three sisters, Louise Smith of Ashley, Vera Place of Woodlawn and Viola Weatherford and husband Bob of Woodlawn; brother, George Germann and wife Marjorie of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law, Jean Germann of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one brother, Jake Germann preceded him in death.

Alvin served in the U.S. Army; he later owned and operated Alvin Germann Trucking until retiring and was a member of Mount Catherine Christian Church in Woodlawn.
