Melvin Fryar

Albany - Melvin M. Fryar, 66, of Albany, a 30-year employee if Gore Drilling Co., died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Shackelford County Hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Lloyd Conner, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey Funeral Home.

Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Spring Garden, Ill., he married Ruby Lipstraw Feb. 3, 1950, in Albany.

He was a World War II Army veteran and received a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Melvina Schuster of Converse; a son Charley of Carbon; five sisters, Delcie Nance, Wilma Hungate, Agnes Fryar, Ruby Watts, all of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Sylvia Gray of Seward, Ill.; a brother, Ben of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
