Local Businessman Passes Away

SALEM — A local businessman who was injured in a car accident last fall has died.

According to incomplete obituary information, Bennie G. Fryar, 57, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Doctor’s Nursing Home in Salem.

“He was such a great guy,” said Jefferson County Chamber Executive Director Brandon Bullard. “He was very active in the Chamber and in this community. I don’t think there was anything he didn’t love doing.”

Mr. Fryar was the owner of Airex Heating and Air Conditioning located on Johnson Street and the former owner of Bennie’s Burger Barn. He was also a member of the Downtown Mt Vernon Development Corporation and the Sportsman Club.

He was involved in an early morning car accident Oct. 3 and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital before being transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was eventually transferred to Doctor’s Nursing Home for his care.

“He was a great businessman and loved,” Bullard added. “Everyone had a great perception of Bennie and he always had a smile on his face. He will certainly be missed.”

Funeral arrangments for Mr. Fryar are pending and entrusted to Hughey Funeral Home. For more information or to send condolences, you may call 242-3348 or visit www.hugheyfuneralhome1969.com.
