Harold Blaine Frick

Harold Blaine Frick, age 88, of Waltonville, died at 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

Harold was born July 8, 1920, in Bonnie, to John and Flora (McGhee) Frick.

He married Roberta Hirons on April 25, 1943, in Mt. Vernon; she survives in Waltonville.

Harold was a graduate of Waltonville High School Class of 1937. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard serving in the Atlantic on the same ship for four years during World War II.

He was an avid basketball fan and served as scorekeeper at Waltonville High School and Grade School for 35 years; he was inducted into the ISHA Hall of Fame in 1992.

Harold was a licensed funeral director, master plumber and an electrician and was partner in Fry and Frick Funeral Home and Fry and Frick Hardware Store for 54 years.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and V.F.W. Post 9153 in Waltonville.

Harold was an avid coin and knife collector.

Harold is also survived by four sons, Robert E. Frick and wife Mollie of Homewood, Harold B. Frick and wife Helen of Atlanta, Ga., Joe Ben Frick of Murphysboro and Dr. Warren E. Frick and wife Carol of Lawrence, Kan.; three brothers, John Frick of Evansville, Ind., Dean Frick and wife Colleen of Bonnie and Gene Frick and wife Joann of Bonnie; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gawain Frick; and a sister, Liza Florence Pickett.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville with the Revs. Chuck Trent and Tom Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in Waltonville. For those wishing, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Waltonville or the Knob Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
