Verner Fred

Verner Fred, 66, a retired Waltonville farmer, died at 2:40 a.m. today at Marshall Browning Hospital in DuQuoin of a heart ailment.

Mr. Fred was born in Jefferson county October 20 1889, the son of Elijah and Martha (Bravard) Fred.

He was married August 19, 1913, in Mt. Vernon to Anna Elizabeth Newberry.

His funeral will be held Friday, June 8, at the Waltonville Methodist church, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. E. L. Gulley. Burial will be in Knob Prairie Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville after 10 a.m. Thursday.

He is survived by his father, Elizah, who lives at Waltonville and is 94 years of age, his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Calvin Darnell of Waltonville, four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ebby Cooley of La Grange, Ill., and Mrs. Harry Hamilton of Waltonville.

A son, Major Arthur Logan Fred was killed May 25, 1955, when lightening struck the B50 bomber of which he was navigator, while on a flight in Texas.
