Leroy Frazier
Leroy Frazier, 74, of Mt. Vernon died 1:20 a.m. Sept. 7, 1999, at
his home. Mr. Frazier was an operating engineer for 35 years until
retirement, and later operated a lawn service until his health began
to fail.
He was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Jefferson County to Clarence and Charlotte
(Brown) Frazier. He married JoAnn Thomason on Jan. 18, 1947, at Centralia.
She died Aug. 12, 1981. He married Betty Egan Hyslop on Sept. 2, 1982, in
Mt. Vernon. She survives.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home with Randy Sells
and Robert Murphy officiating. Burial will be at Opdyke Cemetery in Opdyke.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home. Masonic
services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home by
Jefferson Lodge 368 AF & AM of Opdyke. Military flag presentation services
will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Frazier is survived by sons Russell Frazier and
wife Janet of Pocahontas and Tom Frazier and wife Brenda of Bluford; daughter
Charlotte Russell and husband Donald of Bluford; seven grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; stepdaughter Brenda Mateer and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon;
stepson Robert Hyslop of Bluford; two stepgrandchildren; sister Alberta Painter
of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Frazier was of the Christian faith. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Jefferson Lodge 368 AF & AM of Opdyke, American Legion
Post 141 of Mt. Vernon, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 of Mt. Vernon, Amvets
Post 4 of Mt. Vernon, Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge 755, Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge 819 and a
member of Sad Sacks at Amvets Post 4.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, Fred E. Frazier.
Memorials may be made to the hospice program at St. Mary’s/Good Samaritan, Mt.
Vernon, or Central Christian Church, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
