Gene Fox

Bro. Gene Fox, 77, of West Frankfort, Illinois went to be with his heavenly Father at 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

He was born August 29, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Guy C. and Mabelle (Neville) Fox.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the pastor at First Christian Church in West Frankfort for many years. He also pastored throughout his life at many different churches. Gene was devoted to his church family and leading people to Christ. He loved music and quartets. Gene was a song evangelist, school teacher, and loved to coach. He also loved sports and was a member of the Lions Club in West Frankfort.

He married Mary Alice Foutch on January 12, 1957 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, K. Fox; and sisters: Maxine Gallagher, Elaine Jones, and Myra McGrew.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Fox of West Frankfort; one son, David (Amy) Fox of Bloomington, IN; three daughters: Gena (Brian) Woodard of Carbondale; Mary Lou (Garry) Smith of Rantoul; Diana Dart of Robinson; eleven grandchildren: Jeremy David (Ellen) Fox; Daniel Gene Fox; Meredith, Emily, and Blake Woodard; Matt, Kyle, Dennis, Trisha Smith, Ryan (Beth) Dart, and Ethan Dart; and five great-grandchildren: Allison Rose, Camron, Conner, Christopher, and Layla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at First Christian Church in West Frankfort, Illinois with Pastors Mont Mitchell, Jason Ishmael, and Adam Foutch officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Union Funeral Home - West Frankfort, Illinois from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday, July 18, 2014 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens, Woodlawn, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church in West Frankfort, Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home and church.
