Walter Daniel Fowler

Walter Daniel Fowler, 85, of Ina, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Ina on Jan. 15, 1919, a son of Joe and Ruby (Duncan) Fowler.

He married Gladys Bird on Dec. 31, 1949, in Whittington.

He was a farmer and sold insurance for Jefferson County Mutual.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Raymond Capps and Spencer Meagher officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Ina.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.

Walter is survived by his wife, Gladys Fowler of Ina; children, Cathy Stone and husband Randy of Black Mountain, N.C., Carol Teague and husband Dennis of France, Roy Fowler and wife Ronetta of Bonnie, Darrell Fowler and wife Jennifer of Ewing and Karen Akright and husband Steve of Ina; grandchildren, Bethany and husband Austin Brown, Jordan and Lisette Stone, Jered and wife Nolwenn Teague, Joel and wife Lidd Teague, Justin Teague, Lindsay Fowler, Chelsi Fowler and fiancé Nick Mayo, McClain, Clayton, Huston and Logan Fowler, Whittney and Miki Belcher, Rachel and husband Jason Jent, Joseph Droll, Stephanie and husband Eric Plum and Kendra Akright; great-grandchildren, Clara and Jack Plum; brother, Paul Fowler of Alaska; and sisters, Dorothy Webb of Ewing, Nellie Adams, of Imperial, Mo., and Lois Glata of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Sammy, Cleo, Clyde, Jake and Harry; three sisters, Loretta Murphy, Chloe Bevis and Ina Payne; and one granddaughter, Leah Stone.

Walter was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
