AGE INA WOMAN KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY TRAIN

Sarah Frances FITZGERRELL, one of the oldest citizens was killed instantly when she stepped in front of a north-bound freight train # 1917, about 1 pm Sunday.

Mrs. FITZGERRELL was going east over the crossing just south of Ina depot and evidently failed to see the train in time to avoid being struck. Charlie SLAWICKY, S. O. DUNBAR, Neal WEBBER and Mrs. Joe KOHUT saw her step onto the track. She was on her way to make a call at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Lydia FITZGERRELL, two blocks east of the depot, when struck.

The train crew failed to see the accident and did not know about it until they reached Mt. Vernon. She was carried by the train engine about 76 feet. One leg was cut off and the body terribly mangled, every bone being broken they body was taken to SNIDER Funeral Parlor where it was prepared for burial.

A brakeman on the train was Walter KIRK a nephew of Mrs. FITZGERRELL.

She was the wife of Hiram FITZGERRELL, who died Jan 9, 1893.

She was born near Ewing and was 85 yrs, two months and 16 days of age.

She is survived by four sons, A. G. FITZGERRELL and Kirby FITZGERRELL of Ina, Roy L. FITZGERRELL of Sullivan and Evan FITZGERRELL of Jacksonville, one granddaughter Mrs. Helen JONES of Ina, one brother S. D. DUNBAR of Chicago and one sister, Mrs. Della O' KEEFE of St. Louis

She was a member of the Ina Baptist Church, where the funeral was held at 2 pm Monday. Services were in charge of Rev. J. R. MC DUFFY and burial followed in Kirk Cemetery
