SARAH M. FITZGERRELL Dies in Richmond, Ind., after a
Lingering Illness of Six Years
News of the death of Mrs. Sarah M. FITZGERRELL, which occured
at Richmond, Ind., at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning, was a shock to
her family and relatives, not withstanding the fact that they expected
her death at almost any moment. Mrs. FITZGERRELL has been afflicted for
six years with an ailment that medical science could not relieve.
She was born in Franklin county, Ill., July 22, 1840, therefore was
more than 63 years old. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth
WHITLOW, who were natives of Kentucky. After her marriage to J. J.
FITZGERRELL, in July 1862, she came to this county and resided here until
a year ago, when she went to live with her daughter in Richmond. She was
the second wife of J. J. FITZGERRELL and to this union seven children were
born, six of whom are living; they are, Robt. C., Marion, Ill.; Mary C.
GOODNER, Nashville, Ill.; Daniel G., of this city; Euterpe CHANCE,
Washington D. C.; Elnora R. WILLIAMS, Evansville, Ind.; and Catherine M.
JESSUP, Richmond, Ind; Mrs. Sarah E. MITCHELL and Mrs. Elzina J. GEE, of
this city are step-daughters of Mrs. FITZGERRELL. She was a faithful member
of the Baptist church.
The arrangements for the funeral will be given later. It is thought that
the body will be brought here for burial March 4, 1903
