Russell L. Finkbiner, 78, of Mt. Vernon died 3:50 p.m. Jan. 10, 2007, at VA Medical Center in Marion.

He was a retired disabled Veteran having served in the Army Air Force.

Russell was born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Oakland to Esther Finkbiner.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Veterans Cemetery in Belle Rive. Military graveside services by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 will be conducted by Chaplain Ernie Collins. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Russell is survived by brother Donald G. Brooks and wife Linda of Opdyke; sisters Mary McKee of Mt. Vernon, Anna Marlowe of Mt. Vernon, and Jane Edward of Opdyke; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife Hilda, mother Esther (Finkbiner) Brooks, stepfather Ira Brooks, sisters Rose Bailey and Linda Lee.
