Claude E. Ferguson

Claude E. Ferguson, 83, of Woodlawn died 7:15 p.m. March 30, 2006, at his home. He was a switchman for Illinois Central Railroad and a farmer.

Mr. Ferguson was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Woodlawn to Joseph W. and Pearl (Weatherford) Ferguson.

He married Darlene (Harvey) Ferguson Nov. 23, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo.; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Woodlawn. The Rev. Roger Lipe will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn-Oddfellows Cemetery in Woodlawn. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Woodlawn.

Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife, Darlene Ferguson of Woodlawn; two sons, Bob Ferguson and wife Wanda of Woodlawn and Ronal Ferguson of Woodlawn; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Ferguson of Dix; grandchildren Brian Ferguson and wife Jennifer of Louisville, Ky., Darin Ferguson of Dix, Marcy Wingo and husband Brian of Nashville, Tenn., Kenny Ferguson of Woodlawn, Kelly Clinard and husband Ronnie of Nashville, Tenn., Beth McConnaughy and husband Mark of Cravat, Rodney Ferguson and wife Janette of Cravat, Christy Kauffman and husband Shane of Loveland, Colo., and Brad Bushong and special friend Kristen of St. Louis; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; a brother; a son, John Ferguson; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Ferguson; and a great-grandchild, Kimberly Dawn Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn, president and trustee of Woodlawn-Oddfellows Cemetery for over 30 years, Shiloh Township tax assessor for two terms and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. After retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife for the past 20 years.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to Woodlawn-Oddfellows Cemetery and will be accepted at the church and funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hughey Funeral Home, where you may call 242-3348 for further information.
