"Aunt Lessie" (Allen) Fergerson

One Of County's Best Women Died Late Yesterday

"Aunt Lessie" Fergerson, Member of Pioneer Family, Will Be Buried at West Salem Wednesday

Mrs. Lester Fergerson, widow of James N. Fergerson, and familiarly known as "Aunt Lessie," died yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Burns, a short distance south of route 15, west of Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Fergerson was in her 90th year, having been born July 27, 1841.

She was a native of Jefferson county, and born within half a mile of where she died.

She was a daughter of the late Rhodam Allen, a pioneer minister of the Methodist Episcopal church in Jefferson county. She was affiliated with some branch of the Methodist church throughout her life of more that 89 years, being first connected with the West Salem M.E. church, and at the time of her death, with the Free Methodist church of Mt. Vernon.

She was ever a loyal and consecrated christian, and took great interest in the church and all it stood for, in the active years of her life, and retained this interest in the years of ill health which preceded her death.

Mrs. Fergerson had been confined to her room at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James W. Burns, where she made her home for some years.

Her husband, James N. Fergerson, in his day a prominent farmer and churchman, preceded her in death several years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. James W. Burns, and was preceded in death by three sons, Fred, many years ago, and Harry some years later. The Rev. Eddie Fergerson, a very successful evangelist, was the last of her sons to die.

Ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at West Salem M.E. church, and burial will follow in the cemetery adjoining.
