Hattie L. (Nowland) Fairchild

Hattie L. Fairchild, 100, of Waltonville died 7:30 p.m. March 20, 2006, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center.

Mrs. Fairchild was born June 17, 1905, in Scheller to Issac Thomas and Allie (Wells) Nowland.

She married Willard Fairchild Nov. 7, 1927, in Mt. Vernon; he preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1997.

She was a homemaker, a 4-H leader for many years, a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Waltonville, a member of Royal Neighbors of America Lodge in Waltonville, a member of the Universalist Church in Waltonville, a member of Jefferson County Home Extension and a member of Waltonville Prairie Historians. Mrs. Fairchild also started the Sunshine Center in Waltonville.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, with the Rev. Elaine Bush officiating and burial following at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Fairchild is survived by a daughter, Ruth E. Laur of Waltonville; three grandsons, David Laur and wife Janice of Waltonville, Dale Laur of Waltonville and Jerry Dean Laur of Centralia; three granddaughters, Jo Ann and husband James Gossett of Mulkeytown, Shirley and husband Michael Nadolski of Nashville and Mary Kay Pyszka of Tilton; 11 great-grandchildren, Jayma Gossett Mueller and husband Eric, Kimberly Gossett Mays and husband Jeremy, Lindsay Gossett, Kris Laur Hodge and husband Brian, Traci Laur Devine and husband Charles Leon "C.L.", Cheryl Laur Devor and husband Mike, Rhiannon Laur Berkemeier and special friend Keith Sheeler, Joseph James Laur, Melissa Nadolski Hopfinger and husband Greg, Melinda Nadolski Bock and husband Mike and Mandy Lynn Langa and friend Roland Rheude; 15 great-great-grandchildren, Derek Mueller, Katilyn Mays, Kourtney, Shawn, Kody Hodge, Dylan Devine, Makabe Devor, Arron Nelson, Justin Winchester, Gage and Mackenzie Berkemeier, Jacie Hopfinger, Madison and Malayna Bock and Matilyn Rheude; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Ed and Shawn Gossett, Jason Speakman and Jeff Lind; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Walter and Harmon Nowland; two sisters, Myrta Newbury and Maggie Reynolds; a granddaughter-in-law, Jamie Laur; a great-grandson, Charles Nadolski; great-great-grandsons Tryston Rowland and Garrett Devor; and step-great-grandsons Justin Speakman and Todd Lind.
