James S. Eubanks

James S. Eubanks passed away July 24, 2008, at St. Louis University Hospital at the age of 81.

He was born July 8, 1927, in Sesser, the son of the late Oma Adams Eubanks and Clyde Eubanks.

On June 26, 1948, he married his wife of 60 years, Lois June Hufstutler Eubanks.

To this union was born five children: a daughter, Marina Lois Sledge and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Rickey and wife Theresa of Patoka, Darrell and wife Teresa of Kell, Nelson and wife Terrie of Iuka and Rodney and wife Kathy of Iuka. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; step grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanita Teel of DuQuoin and Chesta Glasco of Arvada, Colo.; and a half-brother, Stanley Eubanks of Sesser.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marcella Dunbar and Ethel Lou Bumpus.

Mr. Eubanks was a member of Pleasant View Free Will Baptist Church where he had been a deacon since 1976. He was a loving husband, father, pa pa and great pa pa and will be deeply missed.

He retired in 1993 from the Union Pacific after 22 years with the railroad. Before that he worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Mt. Vernon for 18 years.and farmed all his life. Mr. Eubanks was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt.Vernon with the Rev. David Burgess and Brother David Shores officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Pleasant View Free Will Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
