Velma Marie (Piercy) England

Velma Marie England, 77, of Mt. Vernon died at 6:30 pm, Jan. 21, 2002, at her home.

She was a sales clerk at the Mammoth department store for many years and retired in 1988.

Mrs. England was born July 13, 1924, in Jefferson County to Charlie and Fern (Steele) Piercy.

She married William B. "Weep" England Jr., Nov. 9, 1940 in St. Louis; he died June 8, 2000.

Graveside services will be held 11 am Thursday at Old Shiloh Cemetery. The Rev. Olen Wetherford will officiate. Burial will be at the Old Shiloh Cemetery. Those attending the graveside service are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm today at Hughey Funeral Home.

Mrs. England was survived by two sons, Gerald England and wife Gloria of Bonnie and Gary England and wife Georgia of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Sharon Utlaut and husband Sterling of Waltonville; five grandsons, Scott England and wife Jackie of Waltonville, Kevin England of Waltonville, Jeff England, Bill England and Shawn Utlaut and wife Brook, all of Mt. Vernon; four granddaughters, Melissa England and Melanie England, both of Bonnie, Carolyn Phillips and husband Shane of Nashville and Shelia Robbers and husband Shawn of Mt. Vernon; eight great grandchildren, Justin England, Allison England, Jamie England, Deanna England, Ryan England, Shayna Phillips, Jordan Phillips and Dustin Robbers; and a sister, Frieda Lane and husband Verdon of Opdyke.

Velma was devoted to her family and friends, and was always there when they needed her.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; a brother, Dewight Piercy; five sisters, Rheba Jean Yearwood, Theresa Mayo, Evelyn Goddard, Gladys Piercy, and Jewell Piercy.

Memorials contributions may be made to Old Shiloh Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or can be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home at PO Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864
