Leland Edwards

PEKIN —Leland S. Edwards, 75, of Omaha , Neb. , died at 11:49 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 1993, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. He was formerly of Pekin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin. The Rev. Paul D. Balaban will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with full military graveside honors.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, of which he was a member.

He was born May 25, 1918, in Evansville, Ind., to William Robert and Katherine Stratton Edwards.

He married Mary Margaret Estes Brennecke on Aug. 18, 1946, in Mount Vernon. She died Aug. 19, 1984.

Two brothers also preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Karen Ann) Reaktenwalt of Bartonville, Mrs. Bennie (Diane L.) Lee of Omaha and Sandra K. Edwards of Pekin ; four granddaughters, Michelle Wenrick, Mrs. William (Traci) Koons, Lisa Lee and Mrs. Edward (Nichole) Watkins; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Edwards of Austin, Texas; and one sister Eleanor Maxwell of Clearwater, Fla.

He attended Southern Illinois University and graduated from St. Louis University School of Pharmacy in 1950. He was a pharmacist in the Pekin and Washington areas for 38 years, last working in 1989 with Christy’s Apothecary. Prior to that, he was a pharmacist for Pekin Prescription Lab and was a self-employed pharmacist in Pekin Sunset Plaza for six years.

Mr. Edwards was a past member of the board of alumni of St. Louis School of Pharmacy and was a former member of the Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association, Illinois Pharmaceutical Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association.

He was a former member of his church council and a former choir member. He was a former member of Taylor Masonic Lodge 98, AF&AM, in Washington, and past president of Sertoma International, Pekin Chapter.

He served as a second lieutenant in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star.
