James Edward Edson

James Edward EDSON died at 2:10 a.m. today at his home, 705 South 17th Street. His age was 76 years, four months and 5 days.

A farmer, he retired six years ago because of ill health. He had been bedfast for the past three months.

Mr. Edson was born November 30, 1886 in St. Charles County, Mo., the son of William and Mary (Smith) EDSON.

On August 27, 1889 he was united in marriage to Rebecca C. JOHNSON who survives.

At the age of 46 he came to Jefferson County and had been a resident of this county every since.

Mr. Edson had been a member of the Free Methodist church in Mt. Vernon for the past twelve years. He was a class leader and teacher in the Bible Class at the time of his death.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete today. However, the body will be in state at Hawkins and Pulley Funeral Home until 4 p.m. Friday, then will be taken to the family home, where it will remain until the hour of the funeral.

Besides his widow, Mr. Edson is survived by three daughters, Mary EDSON and Mrs. Gertrude DALTON, both at home, and Bernice EDSON of West Virginia; two sons, George and Fred EDSON of Mt. Vernon; three brothers W. EDSON of Springfield, Charles of Eldred, Ill., and Lee of Jay, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza REGELEIN of Springfield and Ada EDSON of Edmond, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A daughter and four brothers preceeded him in death.
