Mildred E. Downen, 77, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, in Crossroad Hospital in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser. Burial will be in Old Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Downen was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

She was born March 19, 1926, in Sesser to Frank and Mary (Sammons) Harmon.

She married Lenard Downen. He preceded her in death in Feb. 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa L. Clayton of Mount Vernon and Elizabeth Downen; and three grandchildren, Mary Downen, Learned Curry and Jamilynn Mason.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
