Lee J. Donoho, 85, of Bluford, passed away at 7:51 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Jefferson County on March 31, 1923, a son of John Orville and Dena (McDaniel) Donoho.

He married Louise Lane in Perryville, Mo., on Nov. 1, 1940. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2003.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Revs. Gale Breeze and Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County. Full military service will be conducted by American Legion Post 141.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Lee is survived by his son, Don Donoho and wife Georgia of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Geniece Bridges of Fenton, Mo., and Connie Forsythe and husband Barry of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren, Cora Haynes and husband John of Fenton, Mo., Barry Forsythe and wife Kris of Frisco, Texas, Tiffany Simmons and husband Craig of Mt. Vernon, Mark Donoho and wife Cara of Mt. Vernon, Dennis Cravens of Long Beach, Calif., Marjorie Schwartz and husband Marty of Mt. Vernon, Deanna McCoy and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon and Nancy Simer and husband Charlie of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cara Haynes, Dylan and Amelia Forsythe, Hunter and Holden Simmons, Zared Donoho, Cody Atchison, Amanda Goedde, Ashli, Jordan, and Randi McCoy, Samantha and Casey Schwartz, and Ashley Chattick; sister, Edna Louise Neff and husband Ruthevan of Bluford; brother-in-law, Robert Lane and wife Sylvia of Mt. Vernon; three sisters-in-law, Eunice Lane of Bluford, Ella Lane of Mt. Vernon and Stella Donoho of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews; and special girls, Maggie and Queenie.

His parents; wife; grandson, Thomas Morgan; brother, Melvin Donoho; and sister, Pearl Beckham preceded him in death.

Mr. Donoho worked as a rural letter carrier and was also a famer. He served in the United States Army during World War II during the Germany Campaign from March 1944 until May 1945 where he earned a Purple Heart, E.a.m.E. Campaign Medal, a Bronze Battle Star, an Over Seas Service Bar, a Good Conduct Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge, and was a rifleman sharpshooter. He was also a member of East Hickory Hill Baptist Church, NARFE, Rural Letter Carrier Union, and life member of Mt. Vernon VFW post 1376.

Lee loved animals; he loved to farm, fish, hunt and take care of his garden. He also always enjoyed taking his grandchildren on vacation every year.
